Sustainability and Ethics

Economic, environmental, and social sustainability are all core values of Obsidian Swim. We acknowledge that we have a duty and responsibility as a clothing company to make as little disruption to our planet's ecosystem as possible.

In 1987, the United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Sustainability is important to us because it maintains and improves the quality of our planet, protects our ecosystem and helps preserve the world's natural resources for future use.

To hold true to our principals, we have teamed up with an ethical manufacturer in Indonesia that donates proceeds from every swimsuit to grassroots organizations that support the environment as well as women's education. They practice fair hiring practices, offer great working conditions, pay above minimum wage, and provide comprehensive health insurance.

In an effort to reduce our footprint, all Obsidian Swim swimsuits are made with a premium, sustainable techno-fabric, comprised of ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon, an eco-friendly yarn derived from 100% recycled materials, that turns trash into fashion treasure. The ECONYL® Regeneration System starts with rescuing waste otherwise polluting the Earth, like fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring and industrial plastic all over the world. That waste is then sorted and cleaned to recover all of the nylon possible. Through a radical regeneration and purification process, the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity. That means ECONYL® regenerated nylon is exactly the same as fossil-based nylon. ECONYL® regenerated nylon is processed into yarns and polymers for the fashion and interior industries. Brands all over the world use ECONYL® regenerated nylon to create brand new products, and that nylon has the potential to be recycled infinitely, without ever losing its quality. The goal is that once all products containing ECONYL® are no longer useful to customers, they can go back into step one of the Regeneration System.

Our manufacturer also repurposes and recycles fabric waste, holding true to its own sustainability standards.

Obsidian Swim actively strives to be as eco-friendly as possible. Some of the ways we achieve this is by creating our bikinis using recycled fabrics and using compostable packaging when shipping our products to you.
